i am looking for a good way of re-recording an announcment if its na audio group. currently we use VAL manger and setup a staging announcment and rename it, but it requires us to make changes. im looking for an easy way for the cusomter to easily use the phone and make a change to an announcment. maybe not possible, but if anyone can share what they are doing i would appreciate it.

thanks

Add and announcement extension on any valboard.
Don't put this in and audio group
name = newannc.wav
Use a phone to record this newannc.wav

Use valmanager to ftp this newannc.wav to your PC, rename it to the name of an announcement.wav file that is on several boards in an audio group. Copy the file to all the boards in the audio group.

thats what we do now, looking for another way but im pretty sure i know the answer to that. this is for a doctors office (acutally 20 offices) and each office changes their greetings often. we use groups for reilability as T1's drop from time to time so redundancy is must but having each office do this on their own is impossible.

As I understand it each customer has their own message but all of the messages are on all of the systems for redundancy.

Have the customer record the message using the extension for the announcement on the val board at their site. That is the one the group will use if their is an off system call to that location. Then use valmgr to retreive it and distribute it to the other sites in the group.

correct, every annoucnment is at 2 or 3 locations. i didnt think you could use the annoucnament access code to change one of them if in a group.....which annoucnemt would it change and how would it know whcih to to change?

you can't. If the announcement is in a group, you can't record it, it must be pointed to an individual gateway.

What you could do is have 2 sets of announcements, 1 set is in the "group" and there would then be a 2nd set for each location to do their own recordings. When they make a change, they call you and tell you. You then FTP the changed announcements to all of the other locations (and also copy it to that locations "group" announcement(s)), and update things.

This way, they can stil make a change, but, it won't be active until you actually copy the changed announcements to each of the other gateway (and the local gateway as well), and put them into the proper file/msg.

Unfortunatley, you can't have your cake and eat it as well :(

thats what i figured and pretty close to waht we do. we have what we call as staging annoucnements that they record and we use VAL to move them around. THanks!

What we do is have a set announcements in a group that are "static" and don't change often. We then have a second set of announcements that are "dynamic" such as outage notifications or such, these are not in a group and the end user can change them at will using the phone.
