One of our Win2000 servers has a re-occuring error that happens exactly every half hour. If anyone knows what it is or how I can get rid of it please let me know.

This is the error message:

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service IISADMIN with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{A9E69610-B80D-11D0-B9B9-00A0C922E750}

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

first go thru your Services (Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services) and check that the following services are set to start (not disabled)...

IIS Admin
MS DTC
FTP Publishing
World Wide Web Publishing

What is happening is one of the services for your IIS (web server) is disabled causing DCOM to fall over. New Zealand, a great place to live.

Thanks for the help darranagl, I'll give it a try.

I'm just woundering...The server in question, which I inherited and was already set up, is stricktly a file server. Its not used for any web or internet related duties. Is it possible that who ever set it up installed a bunch of stuff that shouldn't even be there?

Thanks again,

Sean

Yes they may have installed lots of 'extra' stuff.

If you go into Add/Remove Programs (in the Control Panel) then click Windows Components. In there you can remove the IIS components (web Server).

Thanks for the help darranagl. I did as you recommended and all errors are gone. I eventually went ahead and uninstalled all the unnecessary stuff.
