re field alignment in Crystal v 8.5

I am using Crystal v 8.5. I have problem with a Crystal report in that it has many fields all beatifully laid out, but when I go to add in another field - anywhere - the whole thing completely squashes up. To realign everything would take an absolute age. Does anyone know of any easy way to deal with this - or if there is likely to be any grouping of objects etc? I am completely baffled as to why this is happening. If I try to even move a field it does exacly the same thing and again squashes everything up. Please help!

You must have some setting that needs to be changed. Try File > Options, check the Layout options.

hi - thank you for replying - I have checked the layout options and their is nothing untoward in there - Its almost as if all the fields have been grouped or locked to together?

Check format field->common tab->lock position and size. You might need to uncheck this to make changes.
