I am using a Custom version of The New Home Construction Template, and would like to assign resources (the ones that rarely change) to individual tasks within the template.

Can I do this? The goal would be that when I change the start date after beginning a new project, that the assigned resources remain assigned, (of course if the dates conflict with another project then I would have to level).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Dug a little deeper and was able to keep the resources that were assigned when the template was created. But any editing to the shared resource file doesn't carry over.

Does project allow you to create a template using shared resources or am I going to have to update them manually each time??

Well this has kinda become a blog for me to post my Project Journal. Hopefully I help someone else in the process.

Posted Resources and was able to create a Master Project file.

Found that I cannot use the template if I want to have the Shared Resource pool update the individual projects. Instead I have created the Template, saved it after assigning the resources as a template. Currently I have to change the Start for the first task which in turn changes the remainder tasks, save the project as a new file name, and then I can pull my reports out of the Shared Resource Pool. The major drawback to this is that I now see the Template along with any projects whenever I print of task/resource reports.

I was able to print off some reports. My favorite so far is the "Who Does What" Report, I can Sort by Single Resource/Date Range/ Resource Range, and it prints a great report.

Unfortunately I cannot sort within the tables by Date. Which stinks, it seems every time I find a breakthrough I find a limitation to Project as well.

I talked to a MS Project consultant today, and he suggested that I try to apply a filter to the report. I've used the filters available in the "Edit" dialouge box, to no avail. I'm sure that had I invited him to quote our project he would have been more than happy to walk me through the process, until then I'm going to be stuck using the date range filter, which will limit the amount of data that the superintendant has to deal with. Hopefully, this helps our situation, cause I don't think I have the patience to rewrite the report in visual basic.

I figured out that when you change tables in the "view" "Reports" area you can manipulate the data in a few different ways. Thats a pretty simple thing noone in class ever talked about.

Today I bring the reports I've created to our construction meeting. It's alot of data, and more than we've used before so I hope it adds something.
