I am getting this error in my Event View Log.

"The master browser has receibed a server announcement from the compter WK1 that believes that is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_El901. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced."

Any ideas on how to reslove this issue or what it is doing? I am using NT4 Service Pack 6. The WK1 machine is a Windows 98SE machine. Any helpful ideas or explination would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dont worry about it - it happens. Nothing is wrong per se...it's just how it works.

pbxman is correct... this is correct.
However, if you want to stop receiving this error, you can change the value "is browse master" to no.
This will cause your W98 to stop requesting elections. S. Gagner

Where would I go to change this value? Thanks for everyone's help.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP

MaintainServerList = 0

0 sets the computer not to participate in elections
1 sets the computer to believe it always is the master browser
2 default ...set to auto

Make sure it is set to zero..
Good luck!

I have had this error on mt NT network and sometimes it cause havoc, users cannot connect or network slow down. I go to File Sharing and properties and disable Browser.
