Hoping someone can help.

I have installed Win2K at home, and have 1 client hooked up.
NAT is installed, and uses the DHCP allocator within NAT. The client is setup to obtain all of it's information automatically, and does so flawlessly. DNS IP is the server, DHCP IP is the server, and Gateway IP is the server.

Now for the problem
I have had a friend over to verify that more than one machine can be succesful at connecting to the server by bringing a laptop and adding it in to the mix. No problem.

So why can i not get RAS dial in to
A) stay connected, and
B) Browse the internet.

The RAS client can connect succesfully, and i can browse the local network but not the internet for about 30 seconds. Then I get disconnected for some reason and I don't know why.

Microsoft has only on piece of info on this and this does not do it

please help

thanks

is the user allowed to dial in using RAS? That is usually the problem.

This is enabled on all users, i can connect, with all users, for 30 seconds. If it was not enabled, I would not be able to connect at all.

I will also mention, when the dial up does complete and i do an ipconfig

my ip is 169.254.xxx.xxx
my dns is 127.0.0.1
and my dhcp is 255.255.255.0

169.254.x.x is an automatic private ip address (APIPA). This means that the dial-in user failed to get a DHCP address from the NAT server.

Make sure the DHCP is coming from the Intenal NIC on the RASS server.

Open RRAS
Right-Click on the server
Select properties
Click the IP tab
@ the bottom next to "Adapter:" select the adapter connected to your internal network.

Hope that helps!
