Hi,

I have followed problem: after backup or after restarting of NW services an error occurs:
nsrd: RAP error: there are more clients connected than number of licenses.

We have checked the number of clients and it is OK:
12/10/04 12:23:12 nsrck: Completed checking 7 client(s)
12/10/04 12:23:20 nsrd: NetWorker Edition
12/10/04 12:23:20 nsrd: License Summary:
12/10/04 12:23:20 nsrd: Available: sv=10, ws=0, clu=0, clu_nt=0, clu_unix=0, clu_linux=0
12/10/04 12:23:20 nsrd: Borrowed: sv_borrowed=0, clu_borrowed_nt=0, clu_borrowed_unix=0, clu_borrowed_linux=0
12/10/04 12:23:20 nsrd: Remaining: sv=3, ws=0, clu=0, clu_nt=0, clu_unix=0, clu_linux=0
12/10/04 12:23:20 nsrd: Connected Servers: (7)

We have also issued nsrck with –L 6 and –L 7 option to check and recovery bad or corrupted indexes.
Also we have checked nsr\index directory where there is not any subdirectory of non-existing clients. The number of subdirectories is also OK (7).
Version of NW is 6.2 (in Legato knowledgebase stands that permanent fix is to upgrade NW to version 6.1.2 or higher).

Has anybody some idea about possible solution??

Run "nsrlic -v" and evaluate the output.

Everything is OK:

Strange - i assume that the server miscalculates the number of clients during startup. I do not know exactly what to do but i would try to add a new client.

Also make sure that you have not relocated the index directory so that you looked at the right one.

Strange thing is that this RAP error occurs constantly from July and all time backup works properly.
Maybe the important fact is that an upgrade has been made (from Workgroup to Network Edition).
Could it be cause of such mismatching in client connection calculation?

This could well be causing the problem, although the workgroup edition allows 8 clients already. On the other hand, i think the early workgroup editions (years ago) only allowed 4 client licenses.

If you run NW 6, you can try the following:

- make sure that you have a good bootstrap backup!
- stop the services daemons.
- investigate the file nsr.res and delete all license
resources (each resource is separated from the next one
by an empty line).
- restart NW.
- Enter all licenses again.

Another strange thing that I saw today is that NW recognize some servers as workstation??
Here is the part of output of nsrlic command:

nsrlic: License Summary:
nsrlic: Available: sv=10, ws=0, clu=0, clu_nt=0, clu_unix=0, clu_linux=0

Obviously, the number of workstation is larger than available!!
And listed “workstation” is definitely server!!
How NW recognize some machine as server/workstation??

In general, NW will need a workstation licenses for backing up such machine - if such does not exist, it will "borrow" an existing server license, if possible. This is what you see.

However, i cannot answer why it recognizes your server as workstation.

Hm, another new doubts …
I have removed all licenses, including base enabler (by nsradmin command). After then, the NetWorker Server was in evaluation mode.
After restarting of Backup and Recover service, RAP error occurred again!!
After then, I have reloaded permanent enablers and authorization codes, in Registration part of NW GUI everything is OK, nsrlic is OK, nsradmin is OK, all these checking show correct number of licenses and after restarting of Backup and Recover service, RAP error about insufficient number of licenses is occurring !!
Very strange??
Any idea???

Here is the part of deamon.log, where you can see the situation after restarting of NW service after deleting all enablers (evaluation mode) and after reloading permanent enablers and authorization codes.

I don't know exactly but at a certain version, the licenses are obviously stored in the media db as well (looks like 7.0 but this could be also valid for 6.2 already. Of course they do not tell you.
