I just installed a new mobo & CPU, and I had to do a "repair" install of windows to get it to work. Now the system randomly freezes in windows. There does not seem to be a pattern as to when it will happen. Any help is appreciated.

Could be some drivers left over from your previos motherboard . What chipset and type was it .

A repair installation doesn't remove installed drivers
it replaces them with the ones from cd ( and installs new ones for new detected hw ) .Johncool has changed motherboard and possibly also chipset/audio etc. etc.

I dont think it's a driver problem. I just wiped my C drive, and the problem still persists, even during Windows setup. Before I formatted the drive, though, it didn't freeze in safe mode. I'm perplexed.

Nope, not a memory problem. The system does not crash in Windows 98, or in WinXP safe mode.
