Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help...

I have an Athlon XP 3000+, 1Gb Ram, X800 XT PE, running XP Pro. I am getting random crashes, sometimes to desktop, sometimes rebooting, from various games. These include Call of Duty 2, Hearts of Iron 2, Battlefield 2, etc, ad naseum. I have changed the PSU, now have a 500w. Have run Memtest86 with no errors on the 2 x 512Mb modules. Only thing I can think of is the HSF on the CPU.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Many thanks

Heat is a possibility, this CPU is known to produced quite a bit of heat and so you definately need a good CPU cooler and extra case fans to cope.
The same can also be said for the X800XT PE, so you can imagine the combined heat produced from both can be "overwhelming" in some setup's (what are your in game case temps?)
Look to see the "absolute max" in game CPU temp is not exceeding 65 degrees centigrade (50 to 55C is typical for this CPU)but obviously a lot depends on your climate.

You mention the power supply and you are quite correct, this setup does require a substantial unit, more importantly though is it needs to be a quality brand as some "so called" 500watt units just can't cut the mustard and are less than useless in a system like yours.

Have you tried just one stick of ram? one at a time?
Latest video and chipset drivers
Games fully patched?
Latest DX9?
Minimum running in the background? Things like MSN etc
