RAID. Requirements?

It depends what you mean by performance?
No! two hard drives are NOT quicker than one! if that is what you mean?
If you have to use more than one drive YES it is better that they are matched but not essential.
But if all you are talking about is speed then just buy one large drive.

Well, sort of...
To run a Raid 0 configuration you would start with 2 identical drives. Either your mobo supports Raid or you will need an addon card that supports Raid. When you set up a Raid 0 config a seperate Raid Bios in essence combines the 2 so that Windows sees them as 1. In a Raid 0 config 2 x 20 gig drives would appear as 1 40 gig drive to windows.
Some people (like myself) experienced approx 15% increase (not double the speed) in read/write speeds over a single drive. If you mobo supports Raid then there should be some info in your manual that will walk you through its setup.
