Hi all,

I am trying to install RH Enterprise 4.0 AS on my laptop. When the installation is loading up it flashes up and tells me that it is loading random drivers including SATA_PROMISE which is what I think I need for my raid controller. When I get to the part where it asks me to format (hd was already formatted with Partition Magic 8.0) if I choose auto or disk druid, I get an error saying "no valid devices were found on which to create new partitions". I thought the raid driver might have been a problem, so I downloaded this:

(I later found out this is the wrong driver, see edit below)

and put it on my usb flash drive. I restarted the installation and attempted to use linux dd to load the driver. When it came up, I pointed it through sda to the .img file. I selected the file and it said something to the effect of it couldn't mount drive sda. So I am unsure where to go from here. If it can't access my hard drive and therefore can't mount any devices, how do I get this to load up? Is it possible to make a new "disk 1" including the needed driver it? If so how would I do this (I don't have access to another linux machine)?

Thanks for any help!

EDIT: I posted (and tried) the wrong driver download, this is the correct one:

However, I haven't done anything with it yet because of the mounting failure problem.

I would try putting the driver on a CD and go from there. I assume the driver either doesn't fit on a floppy or your laptop doesn't have a floppy drive?

Just a shot in the dark ,since no one replied.

Correct, the laptop does not have a floppy drive. Through further searching, I've found this to be a common issue specific to the raid control and a lack of drivers on the manufacturers part. At this point, I am going to attempt an install of SUSE 9.1 for which drivers do exsist.
