I've got a new SonicWall Pro 2040 installed and working. I'd like to use the VPN feature and have it authenticate against my RADIUS server, but when I use the Test function within the SonicOS, it always fails. I'm sure the RADIUS server is setup properly, because I can VPN directly to the server at work, bypassing the 2040, and it authenticates just fine. The logs aren't helping me, either. Can someone help walk me through getting RADIUS authentication from a SonicWall working? Thanks!!

Nevermind! I finally found a link on the 'net that helped me figure out what wasn't set properly.

First off, the installation and configuration of the IAS as a RADIUS server is very easy, and fairly automated by Windows 2003. Install the service and you're pretty much good to go.
Secondly, telling the RRAS to authenticate against the RADIUS server was equally easy, once I had the RADIUS server up. I'm not sure if I needed to do this part, however.
Thirdly, I actually had set up the SonicWall Pro 2040 properly the first time; my problem was not knowing EXACTLY how the two devices talk to each other (SonicWall Pro 2040 and RADIUS server). To cut to the chase, the SonicWall was configured to communicate with the RADIUS server with PAP authentication. So all I needed to do was tell the RADIUS server to accept PAP authentication attempts and VOILA! I'm in like Flynn!

What did I learn from all this? That no one company has the proper setup procedures for a universal install - always check and recheck any and all documentation before doing anything!

Thank you. End of line.
