Pulling my hair out on this.

Have VM-Pro on a Windows XP Pro Box as I usually do. Have a Local SMTP Server setup on the XP Box using MS IIS. The IP Office Itself is set to use this SMTP Server for System Alerts and Alarms and that work just fine. But when VM-Pro Sends Emails, they don't get delivered. The SMTP Server does send an NDR to the from Address set in VM-Pro with a funny error about body type not supported (See below).

I then tried setting up an SMTP Server on a 2003 Server and pointing to that, same exact issues.

I tried bypassing the sonicwall firewall and hooking up directly to the internet line using public IP's, and guess what, didn't work either.

We also tried completely reinstalling and reinstalling vm-pro, with best practice reboots in between and all. Still no good.

Also I tried configuring outlook express on the PC to point to the local SMTP Server and it sent emails out just fine.

I am suspecting this is a 6.1 issue changing the way it send the voice-mail to email alerts or something. I cant imagine anything else it could be. Has anyone had this issue?

Here is the Error in the NDR Email:

The message contains a content type that is not supported
<VM-DT #5.6.1 smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not supported by Remote Host>

While Initially thought the same, I don't agree.

1. This only happens with emails from VM-Pro, not from the IP Office itself, and not from outlook either when configured to use the Local SMTP Server.

2. I moved the SMTP Server to another totally different machine. Same exact issues.

i went through this allready and it made me bang my head against the stage like I never did before, I ended up ditching gmail relay through 2003 server and going with a third party smtp server from a host that uses sendmail as the primary platform emails would make it from the vmpro server to the 2003 relay and to the gmail send.. then the error

and if i sent a email through outlook express it worked fine.. so weird..

gmail relay tutorial was here:

and here

and my post just like yours was here:

my advice is to just use a third party host like or any of the others... where is this customers domain hosted? use that instead or possibly try

No matter what I do I can not get this to work.
Help!!!!!!!

I also found a reg entry on our VMPro server

HKLM/Software/Avaya/Media Services/Directories/DisableBinaryMime = N

try setting it to Y and restart VM Pro service.
