I have the following error after restoring a backup to an IBM server with RAID 5 and 3 hard discs

"Windows 2000 could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration
problem. Could not read from selected boot disk"

What could cause this error and how can I correct it? I tried running the Windows 2000 server CD and running windows repair - but it won't see the hard disc. I suppose you need the RAID drivers to do this?

Thanks

How did you restore data if you didn't have the RAID drivers?

Please give more detail. What happend to make you restore data and what did you restore?

Is your server using hardware RAID?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

We have got the raid drivers on the IBM RAID cd.

Well one of the hard discs failed - we replaced it but on the next reboot the machine wouldn't start up.So we set the machine up from scratch with the RAID drivers and Windows 2000 server.

Yes I think its a hardware RAID.

Holly cow. OK, so it is too late now to take the proper action from your failure, but I HIGHLY advise you read up on your specific hardware management. The whole reason for having RAID 5 is the ability to rebuild a drive in case of failure.

Your problem is probably that you need to boot into the SCSI controller and set the new drive as being part of the RAID array.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
