"Visual C++ Runtime Error abnormal program termination" running exmerg

Hi guys + gals,
I have been successfully backing up 170 mail boxes from an old Exchange 5.5 sp4 on winNT4 SP6a,before moving them using "Move Mailboxes" in admin.exe to a new Exchange 5.5 sp4 win 2000, unfortunately the last batch crashed for some reason, now when ever I try to start exmerge.exe, I get a dialogue box :-

Microsoft Visual Basic C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
program:...exmerge.exe
abnormal program termination

have tried rebooting (duh!)
and copying and new version of exmerge but to no avail, has anyone had anything similar?

Err I deleted the 5.6 GB exmerge log file on c: (after it filled my drive and stopped exchange :-( grr), and it's all happy now..
