"transmit condition parallel port no printer" console error

i'm trying to upgrade from 4.3.3.11 to 5.1 on an rs6000 43p 140.
we've had a problem for a while now that a message appears on the console
Code:
transmit condition parallel port no printer to cancel type (shift+ctrl+tab)
which then freezes until the keys are pressed.
there never has been a printer attached to the parallel port. there aren't any in SMIT; all our printers are networked and none are attached to the 43p.
i'm very bored of pressing (shift+ctrl+tab) every seven seconds or so.
what have i done wrong?

in case anyone is interested, i finished the install (five hours of pressing ctrl-shift-tab every seven seconds - yum!) and now get no response from
Code:
oslevel -rl 5100-04
which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
now i want to go to 5100-06 which will probably be just as exciting.
so the question still stands.

does anybody have any clue what is going on with this error?

as an aside, the terminal has "blk =prt" top and centre, which our other 6000 doesn't. amazing what catches your eye when you're very bored. is this a red herring?

well, i fixed the "transmit condition" stuff.
on booting up after the upgrade it didn't recognise the terminal. ibm3153 was not one of the options, so i kept trying each of the others.
btw, the keyboard has been replaced with a standard pc keyboard so i can't see keys like "setup" or "exit".
one time i accidentally pressed ctrl-scrl which took me into the terminal setup menu.
the host/printer option of page f1 was set to EIA/Para for some reason. setting it to EIA/None seems to have stopped the messages.
still haven't managed to get the it to recognise the terminal, but i'm working on it.
btw, the "setup" key for wyse60 emulation is ctrl-scrl.
for ibm3151 it is ctrl-kp-.

bingo!
seemingly, acceptable is terminal:"sco console" and box:"ibmpc".
i say acceptable because i've got some kind of response out of it.
now i'm in smit and can't find f10.
oh well.

just as i pressed submit i found it.
it's yer usual esc+0.
i guess that's over and done with.
hope anyone else with this problem is helped by these ramblings but i guess it's not that common.
ttfn.
