"Too many recipients"

Within our company there are certain 'distribution groups' and up until the other day they all worked.

Now we are experiencing problems sending out to multiple operators! We are recieving the following error:-

<mailserver #4.0.0 smtp;452 Error: too many recipients>

I've looked on Google for the error, but nothing helped!

Has anyone ever seen this error before?

If you look on the Messages tab of your 'Default Virtual SMTP Server' there is a field labelled 'Limit number of recipients per message to:'

I would check this and see if someone has set it too low.

Hi Scott,

this is set to the following:-

Checked 'List number of messages per connection to' 20
chekced 'list number of recipients per message to' 64,000

The send out is only going to around 500 hundred operators.

The Distribution groups you mention are they all internal or external? If they're external then the recipients mail server could be restricting the number of recipients you can mail.

All the recipients are external.

We have sent emails to the fore mentioned group before and not had this issue...

Is it possible that the group could have become corrupt?

The problem appeared to be with the actual distribution group!

I created a new group which contained the same recipients, and it went! A little weird!
