"This data source contains no visible tables." 1

I have a relatively simple Access database that I want to import data from into Excel. As I have done with other such db's, I have taken an Excel workbook, gone to Data/Get External Data/New DB Query and then chosen the Access db (it is even in the same folder).

When I do the above, I get the message, "This data source contains no visible tables." This is not true!

Any help would be, as always, Greatly appreciated!

After you choose "MS Access Database" and it
may bring you "select tables" screen. Choose "options" and
select "system tables."

Thanks very much for the effort, xlhelp; Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Any other ideas? (I have no trouble connecting to other Access dbs on the network...).

Do you have a period in a folder name? (Example C:\BobinCal\my.folder\......) That dot will cause a problem

Else,
Are your filename and folder names the same. That is, your database name may be expense.mdb and one of the folders in one of the paths may be called expense as well. Bill Gates says that's a no-no.

I have limited experience with Access. However, here's a "shot in the dark" ...perhaps it'll hit something

Where you say... "This data source contains no visible tables." ... Is it possible you're getting this message because, for you, there are no visible tables - due to that particular Access file having been "protected" ???

Have you been able to open the file in Access ???

If the file IS protected, then of course you'll need to seek admission to the WorkGroup and given a password by the owner/administrator of that file.

Wow! Thanks, xlhelp & Dale! Not only has this been a satisfying experience for the current situation, it has been a source of great information for future use!

A star goes to xlhelp for the file naming tip; It was the name that was causing all of the problems (spaces in this case, rather than periods).
