"Sync Issues1" folder conundrum...

Well, here it is, short and sweet.

On more than one occasion in the past, I've run up against an Exchange/Outlook recurring synchronization error of one sort or another. Invariably, one of the attempted solutions is to re-create the Outlook profile, and this can sometimes cause the "Sync Issues" folder to be duplicated as "Sync Issues1".

Generally, you can then delete the original "Sync Issues" folder without incident, but will be unable to rename the new folder. I've learned to live with the "1" at the end of the name of the new folder, but in this case my CIO wouldn't let me leave well enough alone. He HAD to have it renamed back to normal.

I've searched the web on this, and only found one or two postings for people asking the same question. The only articles I could find from Microsoft actually instructed me to use Exchange Client 4.0 on a pre-Win2k OS to rename the folder (still dumbfounded by that).

Anyway, I wanted to post my solution here for posterity, particularly because it's so bizarrely simple.

It turns out I was able to rename the folder back to "Sync Issues" simply by logging on via Outlook Web Access (OWA) and renaming it there. The next time I opened Outlook 2003, the folder appeared with the new name.

Go figure.
