"save as" hangs up Microsoft Office

Dear Gurus,
The problem is that in Office programme word when I "save as" it just hangs up and gives message "save as" is not responding and on selecting "End Task" from Task Manager it closes the word programme and I end up losing my data. Note I have kept the office updated with sp3 and no updates are required, your help is appreciated.
