All of the sudden I lost the "recent" list on things like Notepad, Word, Adobe Acrobat ....

By placing the cursor over the Task Bar and Right-Clicking the icons I was able to see the most recent files opened from before, now they don't show-up even after just using some.

Any ideas?

Thanks.-

Have a look here and see if there is anything showing in the Folder.

C:\Users\usernamexxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent

Check the Settings from right-clicking the Taskbar/ Properties/ Start Menu/ Privacy

Thank you linney, I have checked and the Privacy check-marks are on and the Recent Folder has many entries.

Also, for example, the enclosed picture shows where the Notepad Icon is on the Task Bar (red arrow) and when I had several "Recent" notepad files open they would "pile-up" on that icon, now if I open a notepad file it opens a new icon (yellow Arrow)... and they will pile-up on that icon...

I have deleted the fixed Notepad icon (red arrow) and set it back but it is still doing the same thing. ????

Also, at the Start Menu the "Recent" list is blank???

Open 'Taskbar and Start menu Properties' -> 'Start Menu' tab, see if checkboxes on both 'Store and...' checked.

For the two notepad icons showing - in Taskbar Properties make sure that the selection for "Taskbar buttons:" is set to "Always combine, hide labels".

Hope this helps.

linney I do have a program that I used 'Final Uninstaler' which works great cleaning all the Uninstalled 'uninstalled bits' left over; however, I restored what it did and I got everything back, including all of the 'recent' stuff.

I guess I have to select with more detail what gets cleaned out, even though I did not see anything close to erasing the Recent Lists after the scan with that program.

I will clean the remnants one by one to see which one does it.I mean, erase the Recent Files and keep them off.

And, I do appreciate the links you supplied.

Thanks all again.

On your image which shows "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", the one with the "Customize..." button, if you click on Customize. there is an option down at the bottom of that page which mentions "Start Menu Size", in there make sure both boxes are not set to blank or zero.

I never use Registry cleaners, boosters, and the like, myself. Your program might have a mention of recent history and that type of thing as something to erase.
