"goals" locked in closed position

Out of the blue, the arrow next to the "goals" window (at the bottom of "appointments") is stuck in the "down" position. So, every time I click on it, nothing happens. If I drag the space above it, using the standard Windows double arrow, I can pull it open and read what's there. But the arrow for goals stays in th down position, so once I click on that to close it, I cannot open it again.

I searched FAQ and past threads, but could not find any reference to this strange problem. I'm running SK98 on WinME and it's been working fine (even solved the "beep" problem I had some time ago).

Anyone had this problem, or able to suggest a solution? TIA.

Dear Rahamim,
More as an experiment than for any other reason I would suggest the following:

Have you installed the SDK98 update?

If you have, it might be worth your while (if you still have the file on your computer), to apply it again.
It won't necessarily solve the problem but as it is just replacing the main Sidekick.exe file it could possibly be the easiest way to solve the problem.
I believe I came across this problem but it was a long time ago and I seem to remember re-installing the lot, the preceeding suggestion would only take a few minutes.
Follow the usual precautions (see FAQ page for files to backup)
HTH Regards Jim

Jim,

Sometimes, being a packrat pays off. I have two updates:
sk98patch.exe, 1,193 kb, 1/15/2000
sk98sea.exe 8,972 kb 1/27/99

Based in what you said,I suspect you mean the larger one. Is that it?

Thanks,
Tony ("rahamim"}

Dear rahamim,
The larger one is the SDK98 programme the smaller one is the Patch which is the one I recommend using.
It actually replaces 2 Files as I had to reinstall recently.

Good luck!
HTH Regards Jim

Jim,
When I unzipped sk98patch.exe I got:

Yintl.dll, 79KB, Application Extension 1/11/2000
sidekick.exe, 2860KB, Application, 1/7/2000

The exe file just opened the SK98 program, but still with the goals arrow pointed down. I'm warned that opening the dll file might affect other programs since it's shared. So I thought I'd check with you before opening it.

In the meantime, I've discovered a kind of "work-around": the cursor placed on the top line of the closed goals window turns into a double arrow that allows it to be dragged open; and the down arrow (the one that's stuck) closes it as it normally should.

Still, what about the dll?

TIA
Tony

Dear Tony,
First of all restart your computer and do not start Sidekick or TrueSync if you have it installed.
Navigate to the Sidekick98 program folder
C:\Program Files\Starfish\Sidekick98\program
usually
Or
C:\Starfish\Sidekick98\program

and
RENAME the file
Yintl.dll
to
OLDYintl.dll

Then copy the update Yintl.dll into that folder,
Start Sidekick and see if all is OK,
If it is ok then GREAT!

If not, then:
CLOSE Sidekick98
make very sure the TimeSynchronise Icon is gone from beside the Clock in the lower Right hand side of the screen.

Then:
Delete the update Yintl.dll file
and rename:
OLDYintl.dll
back to it's original name.

This should not affect any other program..
Let us know how it goes,
Regards Jim

Hi Jim,

Well, I followed your directions, but the arrow is still stuck in the down position. Since it doesn't look like an easy fix, I'm content to work around it, especially since I use "goals" mostly for long-term to-do items and give them a date, at which point them turn up in the to-do window.

You mentioned that, in closing SK, I should make sure the time synchronization icon is also gone. I'd love to have it gone for good; it just sits there doing nothing. (I use another application to check the time.) Any way to block it permanently?

On the other hand, I really liked the little net-meter that SK made available some years ago, but find it doesn't work with the new IE (6.0 now, but also the 5.x). I saved the program, and wonder if anyone has found a way to keep it functioning with the new browsers. It's a much better way to monitor the transfer of data than the little double-screen icon on the tool bar.

Again, neither of these is crucial, but they seemed at least worth raising.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Tony

Dear Tony,
I will think about the problem and try to recreate it
which about sums up my research methods...
In the meantime there are a lot of freeware options for the net-meter 'out there'
I wish you good luck and a
Happy & Peaceful Thanksgiving to you too!

Dear Rahamin,
I found the answer on the Starfish site which I have downloaded and saved to a Text File:

Q: When the monitor setting is 1024x768 pixels, Large Fonts, the Viewport window in Contacts View never opens (the arrow is always pointing down).

A: Switch to small fonts to resolve that issue.

Dear Jim,

I'm afraid the problem lies elsewhere. My screen pixels are 800 X 600, and I'm already using small fonts.

Feel free to root around some more, but (as I mentioned earlier) the situation is not that much of a problem for me. As if to underscore that point, about a week ago I discovered that all my "goals" were gone--both the done and the undone. And the few I've added since are easily accessed by dragging open the window that the arrow opened.

I'd still like to get rid of the time synchronization icon that Sidekick puts on the bottom tool-bar. I don't use it (I have a better one), and it's just taking space.

Hope the quickly approaching new year is good to you--and the rest of the world.

Peace,
Tony

Well Peace to you too Tony and I hope the rest of the world gets that message too!

I have managed to recreate the problem , but only in the Calendar View in all the other views the goals window opens and closes normally, is that how it is for you or is it in all the views?

Yes, just in the daily calendar view. (I admire your tenacity!)

Dear Tony,
I have recreated the situation couldn't find a solution and elsaGarcia
see thread807-342384 at the bottom
has found the solution (give her(?) a star)!
