I know that it is a no no to set permisions to everyone but i don't know who and what to give rights to the permision. If you can give me some tips on who to put in there. thanks
Create new groups containing people with similar access needs, and place users into those groups. Give access to the groups who need it. For example, you have a marketing department, you create a group called Marketing, add all the users in that department to that group, and give that group access to the folders on the network that contain marketing data. What about the settings for read/write/full control/ settintgs. Does read write access mean thaey could alter a file but not delete it? What's a good starting point for these?
Read means they can read it, but can not save any changes they've made. They can not delete either. Write means they can create new files and save changes to existing files, and delete files. Full control means they can take ownership and change permissions on it. Most of the time, you're going to want read and write (full control for administrators), and make sure you're getting good regular backups in case a file does accidentally get deleted. Marc Creviere
