We've had a non-productive day on a customer site due to the error message 'Error while trying to open file', etc (including mention of 'unknown db', 'win32 error' and 'I/O Error')
We've just installed Interbase 6 on the server and can see the '.gdb' file through conventional means such as Windows Explorer.
We've tried setting up the Alias through BDEAdministrator and SQLExplorer but always get the error as listed above.
The user has rights to the file and directory as set in the path.
The '.gdb' is not set as 'Read-only' so this is not the issue.
Can anyone suggest why I might be seeing this ?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Steve is your Interbase Server Running?
Start IBConsole and use Server --> Diagnose and test the connections.

Another point, have you installed the Interbase client on the target computer? This will be found in the Client directory, without this Delphi cannot make the connection. S. van Els
