On a few of my XP and 2000 PC's, I'm getting "duplicate name on the network" errors. But there are no duplicate names!! I've even tried changing the name and it still pops up. Any ideas?

A Google of this issue would show a lengthy discussion, but do this:

. remove the machine account (not user account) from the Domain

. Wait at least 30 minutes

. Re-add the machine account

Have these machines been ghosted?

They have not been ghosted. Also, they are not a part of a domain....they are just logging in to a workgroup.

If you use assigned IP addresses use the last triplet as part of the computer name, for example Office-123. If you have a similar problem then you can at least ping the offending IP address and see if it exists.

How exactly are you logging into a workgroup?

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.
