Hello all -

We have two G3csiV7 switches. One is active at a customer location and one is spare, recovered from a decommissioned customer site.

We have to move the active switch to a different location at the customer site. Since we have to run new cabling to support the move, the boss wants to 'pre-install' the spare switch and copy the configuration over from the active switch.

Is this possible to 'clone' the active switch onto the spare? If so, how?

If not, is there any way to dump the current config of the active switch so that I can reprogram the spare?

Thanks in advance for any help -

- Mike

Easiest would be to just cable out the new cabinet, then on the day of the cut just move the processor card from the old cabinet to the new cabinet. Yes, you could copy the translations to the new switch by booting with the flashcard from the old switch but if the new processor is not the same or newer load, it will corrupt the software.

That's good news, should make it much easier!

Is there a way to save the config or download it to the terminal computer so that, if something *does* go wrong, we don't have to hand-enter everything all over again? If so, what would the procedure be? Trying to be ahead of the game for any potential issues.

Also, if I put the memory card from the spare switch into the active switch, will saving translations overwrite the data currently on the card, or would the card have to be formatted?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm self-taught from manuals so I don't know this stuff.

All translations are saved on the card. yes, it would overwrite the card if you put the spare card in the live switch and did a save trans. The cards are the way you copy and save and store translations on that release.'

Thank you very much for the info, this makes our relocation plan for the site a lot easier!

You will have to place the TNxxx boards in the same slots on both switches.

This should be simple if both are Prologics. There was only one version 7 software load, but 3 hardware platforms

CMC - Compact modular Cabinet(s) a, b, c
MCC or SCC - multi carrier cabinets and single carrier stacks a, b, c, d (up to 3 fiber connected port networks)
G3R -

System: G3siV7 Software Version: G3V7i.01.0.343.7
System: G3csiV7 Software Version: G3V7i.01.0.343.7 (Prologics)
System: G3rV7 Software Version: G3V7r.01.0.343.7

Make sure that both systems are the same hardware platform.
Control carrier packs for g3si are different than that for g3csi and are not compatible to load flash
cards from the wrong hardware platform.
