I have written a few reports and then compiled them into a folder on a server. We are using CR 8.5 on a sql server. When a person wants to run that report they open and run the .exe. Here is the problem. all of a sudden when people try to connect to that report and run it they get a error stating "cannot open control file" If i go back in and recompile it they can get back into but lose it again after trying later on. Any ideas??

thanks in advance

When you compile a report, there are 2 other files created with the same name as the Crystal reportname.rpt. Namely, a reportname.exe and a reportname.crf. Change the property on the reportname.crf to read only.

i have it set for read and read & execute. take the read & Execute off? also i have it set for the folder and the file inherit from the folder.

From my experience, the .crf should be read only. Otherwise it gets updated and you get the "control file error" with the next execution of the .exe

You will need to replace the .crf with the original one and then set to read only. If you don't have the original .crf, then you will have to recompile and resinstall everything to get a fresh .crf to go with the .rpt and .exe
