When a service has "best effort" what does that really mean? Does that mean the router/switch will try to carry the data from point A to point B, but it may screw up in the process?

I'm refering to CoS by the way. It says CoS offers "best effort".

Someone please clue me in!
Thanks.

I'm only jumping in here as no one else has answered - my answer is my no means definate!

If you look at something like UDP against TCP, "Best Effort" usually means that should something go wrong, no attempt will be made to correct it.

Does that help?

I understood the same way too.
Thanks for clearing it up!

I believe best effort usually means no guarantee and no retransmission
