I have a really strange problem. My roaming users won´t get the correct date and time settings when their profile is created the first time.

To correct this I adjusted the right time/date settings as the administrator user ...

Then as the administrator I exported the values in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International to a file and changed the header from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\International and imported the values to registry. Now the default user should have the correct date/time settings right?

I deleted the users roaming profile from the profileshare, deleted every cached copy of the users profile on the actual server and tried a "fresh" logon.

No way, still the wrong date/time settings.

This is (excuse the language) really beginning to piss me off. I could just change the default user profile with another "working user" for instance the administrator profile ... but this is a principle for me now. I need to understand what prosess that is bugging my system.

Any ideas, anyone?

Are the DFS and Windows Time services running on the PC? Is the server in sync with an atomic clock?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

i'd setup a new, correct profile then replace the default user profile with it!

don't waste your time ;-)

Hi!
Why should the DFS/Time service be related to wrong regional settings? My problem is not related to a incorrect timezone/time ... I just have some trouble getting any default regional settings inherited to new user profiles (from default user)

That was my idea as well, but where do the default user get its regional settings from if not from the registry keys I referred to?

This is the old problem, vertainly in UK where you change the keyboard and regional settings at build time. You actually have to get rid of the other ones at build too or you get the US ones for all users.

You can however have a kix script that will do this for you at login.

If you like I can post mine here. I still have a copy. I now get the regional settings sorted at build time.

Doesn't the profile (when a domain Profile) pull regional settings from the server? That is why I was asking about DFS and Time Services as they work hand in hand with Time Sync. I may be wrong on that as I don't know for sure if the local regional settings are overwritten by the server or not.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

tuliphead,

when you create a new profile, do like scott says.. get rid of the other keyboards & locales.
Set it up as you want all new users to be set up, then delete the DefaultUser folder, and rename your profile to this name. Give it the same rights as the original defuser folder.
That way, all new users will use this profile as a template profile when created.

The registry key you mention for .DEFAULT is surely correct, but not enough... its a complcated business the registry ;-)

I actually just did the copy of another user over the default user profile thing. It was not what I wanted in the first place, cause I would like to know what triggers this fu"¤# date/time thing.

I am in a good mood today, so I give a star to everyone anyway :)
