When I attempt to open Quicktime player I get error no. 46: unable to find or load Quicktime Active X control. However, the Active X control (QTplugin.ocx) is present in the Quicktime directory. When I attempt to uninstall the Quicktime player, I get a host of dll files that won't
unregister, and during the subsequent reinstallation of the Quicktime player I again get the same error message even though, I assume, the ActiveX control is present in the installation setup. Can anyone help?

I have an identical problem.

However, in addition it applies to four out of the five user profiles on my PC.

Installed/deinstalled and cleaned out the registry using registry mechanic, but it makes no difference

I have now solved this problem. The problem was that I had installed QuickTime from one account and was trying to uninstall it from another. Since I have GoBack installed, I was able to revert the computer to the point before the failed uninstall, switch to the account from which I had originally installed it, and uninstall from there, which worked fine. If this is your problem, and you don't have something like GoBack, I'm not sure how you can undo the failed uninstall.
The moral of the story from my point of view is to have only one administrator account on the computer and install and uninstall everything from there.
