Whenever I boot up I have to right-click the task bar and select 'Toolbars' then 'Quick Launch' to bring the Quick Launch icons up and then move then to the right with the width indicator bar next to the Start button. The check next to Quick Launch disappears when I close the computer down.

Right click the Reg binary value named "Settings" at the key below and choose Delete
Start>Run REGEDIT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects

Reboot

Thanks for the help. Followed your steps and at Settings saw this:
28 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF 06 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 02 00 00
1E 00 00 00 FE FF FF FF E4 02 00 00 02 04 00 00 02 03 00 00

Are you saying to Delete all of these values?

Yes..
It should resolve the problem....no harm should come in case it doesn't do the trick. I've done this many times myself..
Delete "Settings" in the right pane..

Managed to get it working. It was the fact that two monitors were set up in the display settings, changed to the other monitor and unticked "extended my windows desktop and this monitor" and law and behold, the start menu appeared!

thanks for your suggestions.

Hi jase25;
Just to clarify for others who may be reading also...Jase25 has this Thread615-791159 running entitled "No Start menu/Taskbar"...
I had cross-referenced threads as a possible fix, so...

It's a peculiar situation which led to the specific problem for you jase25, but no doubt, it's an avenue worth investigating for others with a similar prob..

Glad you managed to fix it jase25! good of you to update us all!....we all learn this way [smile]

I have not been able yet to resolve my problem. Your suggestions were tried and started me studying the Registry which was fun but not helpful for this problem. I also tried Microsoft's Knowledge Base but no help there. In addition to the original problem, when I bring up the Quick Launch toolbar, the order of the icons has been reset to some default order?

Hi jnvan;
i think i mentioned the wrong author's Name in previous post..
anyway....if you untick "all" the ToolBars, then restart, and then Righ click TaskBar and select "New Toolbar" and navigate to the Quicklaunch folder (C:\windows\application data\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch)...
Do you have any odd shortcuts in that folder....?...or anything other than shortcuts?..and to which prog's..?
