My quick launch bar is gone. When right clicking on the taskbar and selecting toolbar - Quick Launch, I get the message "Cannot create toolbar".

The folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch with all the shortcuts is still there !!!

Please help

Use regedit and delete the entry, if found, :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\ClassicShell

Reboot.

It appears that you may have to uninstall the current version of IE, install IE 4.0 and enable Active Desktop, then re-install IE 5.x or 6.

This got me in the right direction. I was going to uninstall IE, but then I saw that there was an option to repair IE.
I got the quick launch bar back, but it is getting more bizarre now: The quick launch bar is next to the system tray and between the Start button and quick launch bar is where all the running programs are ???

How do I get the quick launch bar back to its old spot next to the Start button ????

Hello guitarman566,

If you're happy with working on the gui, then point your mouse at the top border of the toolbar. It shows a double-arrow. Pull it up so that the toolbar double its size in the vertical direction. Then point the mouse to the quick launch until it shows a double-arrow again. Pull the quick launch bar up. Finally pull the toolbar down to normal height. (The description is terrible!)
