Can I change from Basic to dynamic, without losing the data on the HD? I know it's a silly questio, but most of the documentation suggests that it can be done.

Thanks,
Charles

Yes, you can change from basic to dynamic without loss of data. However, let me tell you of my experience with this. I wanted to utilize dynamic disks to create a mirrored volume. Everything worked fine until I tried to upgrade to a new server. I figured I could just pull one of the drives and copy data from my data partitions to the new server. What I found out was that the partitions that I had created while the disks were dynamic were not recognized - no, GONE! Apparently there is a virtual partition created rather than a physical partition when using dynamic disks. While the drive was removed I had booted the old server with only one drive. After I re-installed the second drive back into the old server the "dynamic" partitions were not there.
