hi experts,

Because ntbackup is unable to back up any file that is open/in-use, I'm looking at other options for backing up SQL Server databases on Windows 2000 Server.

1. Can Backup Exec back up SQL Server databases that are *in-use* at that time?

2. Can Backup Exec back up SQL Server databases to another disk drive on the network or does it have to backup to tape media?

Thanks, John

1. Yes. With the Agent for SQL Server option. ($$$)
2. Yes, but WHY?. I've never done it, but you can backup to disk.

Word of advice....In my OPINION (and others), it's best to use the 'native' SQL Server backup commands. I use SQL Server commands to backup my databases to disk and then use Backup Exec to copy the backup files to tape.

For information on backing up to disk (across network) check out Forum962 (Microsoft SQL Server: Setup and Administration) or Forum183 (Microsoft SQL Server: Programming).
