When you buy a brand new cisco switch is it the same as the routers to setup, Console and Configure?

I have only setup routers and never got the chance to setup switch, just wondering if you would need a router to configure switch?

It's very easy. You can use telnet or Web if you want. For web you have to do as they wrote in the user guide. When you'll connect the switch to your LAN. You have to download the CMS (Cluster Management Suit) from the Cisco Web.

If you are familiar and comfortable with the console interface on the routers, I would stick with that when configuring the switch for the first time.
All of the basic functions of the IOS are the same, (i.e. type ? for help, etc), but there are certain switch specific configuration parameters you can set. See the IOS guide for the particular device for details.
