I am in the process of upgrading from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. I was just wondering if it is still possible to install OWA on a server other than the server running Exchange 2003. I would like to do this for security purposes but I have read that OWA needs to be installed on a server that has Exchange 2003 installed, which would require an additional license of Exchange. Any help / tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help. Thats what I figured, but just wanted to make sure. Looks like Bill will be getting more of my money.

Code:
[b]Q.[/b] Are there any specific licensing requirements for configuring Exchange Server 2003 with Microsoft Outlook Web Access in a front-end and back-end configuration?

[b]A.[/b] You need a [COLOR=red]server license[/color] for every server. If you choose to deploy a front-end server for Outlook Web Access, you need a [COLOR=red]server license[/color] for that server.

server license = Exchange Server license

-or-

server license = Windows Server license

I'm reading that as Exchange Server license. Right? Is that how you read it?

Yes that is exactly how I am reading it. I believe I will actually need to purchase both a Windows Server 2003 and an Exchange 2003 license.

Incorrect, YOU want to use 2 server, 'Bill' is not forcing you.
Any decent firewall is enough to protect you the way you want with ONE server. If you want to increase this security level, that is YOUR choice. A good one, but it is not Microsoft forcing you.

I never used the word force, it is my own choice. I understand that I can install and run OWA on my existing Exchange Server, but it is best to install it on a separate server for security purposes. Sorry if I worded the above response wrong. Have a good one.

Ok, Maybe I jumped up too fast, but you have to excuse me then. Too many people want everything for nothing, I just misread or misinterpreted your line.
Sorry about that.
