If i was to be dual booting XP and Mandrake linux together and have a partition setup as follows

1. XP applications and OS (FAT32)
2. Data accessible by both OS. <--------my question regards this. (FAT32)

3. Mandrake Linux 9.2 (when comes out) (mandrake file system)
4. Mandrake Swap Files (mandrake file systems)

If i have this data partition where all my documents and other files will both my OS be able to access and the letter is L: for example and XP is on my C: drive, when i open XP applications will i still be able to open for example a word document through the L: drive and will it still open or will i have to edit file associations (sorry
about the confusing question)

THankyou in advance

Alex

Alex,

Yes - you will be able to open your word document through the L: drive under XP. In fact, you might want to remap your My Documents directory to this folder - that way you won't have to change the folder to save in every time. To do this, right click my documents folder, choose properties and you can change the path.

Mandrake Linux won't have any problems accessing a FAT32 partition, but remember that you will have to mount the partition - it is probably worth adding an entry in your fstab file, but this is an XP forum, ask in the Linux forums if you need more help to do this.
It is also theoretically possible to remap your Unix home directory to this folder by editing the passwd file - but again this is outside the scope of this forum.
