When you go to print something from just about any program, you can also click "Preferences" and change the Quality Settings to "Draft."

Is there anyway to set Windows to use "draft" printing by default instead of the more ink-wasting "normal" mode?

Open your printers folder. Right-click on the printer in question and select "Printing Preferences". Change the settings to suit you and click OK.
