Question about LDAP authentication

Hello,
We are installing CheckPoint Express on a Nokia IP380.
There is an interior firewall, a PIX. Can I have an Active Directory LDAP server on the internal Corpnet tunnel back through the PIX back into the DMZ to authenticate external Secure Client users for remote access? Or does the LDAP server have to reside in the DMZ also? Thank you in advance.
