Hi all...I was wondering if someone could help me understand how security permissions work...it is very confusing to me! I have recently installed an application on a WinXP/Pro machine running over NTFS and in a Win2000 domain. Therefore, the users log in using their domain account. I installed the app (Print Shop) using the Administrator account, and it runs fine, but when the domain user logs in, it crashes with some weird error message that it can't run PS6.EXE. Since it runs under Admin, I'm assuming the problem is related to security. I've given that domain user full rights to the program folder, and also to the Windows folder (I know, not smart, but I was just trying to see if the error was from the program writing to it). To be honest, I actually gave that user full rights to the entire C: drive. :0 Still won't run.
My question is about "inherited" rights...when I give a user full rights to a folder, does it automatically apply those rights to the folders/files underneath the parent folder that I'm giving the rights to? If not, do I need to check the box to apply the rights to child objects AND UNCHECK the box to inherit the rights from the parents? This is very confusing. When do I check these boxes, and when do I just leave it alone?
Does anyone know why the program that I installed won't run unless I am admin, even though the domain user has full rights to the entire hard drive?
Thanks for any help...
