query and date problem

The database has a date field in the form of mm/yy. When running the report the query does not execute unless the date on the computers clock is set to 2001. Whe we try to run the report with the date on the computer set to 2002 all that returns are errors. The query allows the user to specify the date range to return.Is it something we did when setting up the query or report?

Addendum:

We have found that the query will run with records from years before 2001 but will not return records with dates of 2001 when the computers date is 2002. Records are downloaded from the mainframe.
