So my question is, is there anyone out there using Quark 6 on mac OS 10.2 and printing to a non-postscript color printer?

I have a non-postscript HP Deskjet 6127 printer setup on a Mac G4 running OS 10.2. It is a graphics workstation running Photoshop 7, Illustrator 10, and QuarkXpress 6.0. When printing from Quark to the Deskjet, the images and fonts are fuzzy and i am told this is because the Deskjet is not a postscript printer. But, if i save the file as an eps and then print it from Illustrator, the file comes out fine. I believe that the Adobe stuff comes with a built-in, so to speak, RIP server for printing the eps files on my non-postscript printer. I cannot find a third party vendor that makes a rip server that supports the HP 6127 printer.

Thank you for any help and guidance.

When i used a non-postscript printer ( i think they used to be called quickdraw ie. Raster based), i would create pdf's from my postscript files then print the pdf to the HP. Also, PDF files are much easier to send to clients for proofing than a quark file with all the art and fonts since most of my clients dont have quark.

If you dont want a workaround, there are inexpensive software RIPs that will allow you to print postcript files to your HP, although I cant remember names of any now.

Hope this helps,
B
