O.K... I've been using Quark for Hmmm... since 1.0! OSX Jaguar, and Quark 6.0, seem to be fine... But ever since Panther, Quark has become practically unusable to me... And what's realy pissing me off, is Quark keeps telling me to hit cmnd. option period to refresh the screen, i.e. make the screen display the objects I'm supposed to be designing in this program?? WTF! I can't believe I'm actually hearing this... When I had my G4 1.25ghz, they said it was the video card... Now I have a dual G5, and there saying it's Panther! ...InDesign does not do this, but all my customers have to have Quark files! I am so pissed about this, I can't see straight... You know I figured they would fix this, but here we are with 6.5, and it's still doing the same thing!!! Imagine a page layout program, where you place a text block on top of another box, and the text partially disappears?? Requiring a key combination to display the objects properly??? ...am I dreaming here? Is this happening to anyone else out there... Or if there is a simple solution that the morons at Quark haven't pointed out to me, PLEASE! ANYONE... Else, I'm outa here... On to InDesign!

Dear Tek-Tips... Thanks for all the useful Tips!

O.K. Marcus, here's the question (discreetly hidden in a rant)...

When you place a text block on top of another box, the text partially disappears! Requiring a key combination (screen redraw) to display the objects properly??? Is this (and many other display abnormalities) happening to anyone else out there...

Is that clearer?...

Hi dhrose,
Yes it does happen to other people, although it hasn't happened to me in awhile.
I just did one then, and it also worked ok...

From what I've read, this has to do more with the OS then Quark.

I also have alot of trouble with classic programs (having to redraw)

Interesting... How can a program, that must run in this OS, blame the problem on the OS? Does that seem strange to anyone else? That's like saying our car runs perfectly... It's your Gas! This situation is NOT intermittant... It has done this since Panther. It did NOT do this in Jaguar, and I never ever had text blocks disappear behind other text blocks in any version of Quark during years of OS 4-9... NO artist/designer would tolerate a visual program that could not display objects properly on screen... I thought they would be able to fix this after 6.0 (and Panther)... but they have denied, and b.s.'d me for 6 months!... clearly they can't or won't fix this, and if Quark fanboys/girls keep encouraging them with indifference, they never will...

I too think it's an OS issue.
There was a recent update to OSX that caused some video problems.
Since updating to Quark 6.5 I have been having some video problems. However I also installed the OSX update at around the same time so the problem could be caused by either or a combination of the 2.

Another thing to consider would be the different types of video hardware in different models of Mac. Which Mac do you have at the moment (1.25Ghz G4?) and what video card is in it. (e.g. is it an nVidia or ATI based card)

The "old" problem I think you are referring to was an issue with the nVidia drivers installed with the OS.
