Quark and font substitution

An annoying problem of Quark 6 for X. It keeps substituting a fake bold [i.e.. measurements palette] on a style that has the appropriate font open. I can reset the style, close the file and reopen it and again the style will substitute. This has happened on more than one file, font and machine. Help!
Clearer example: Style is Johnston ITC bold. Close application, reopen. Style now Johnston ITC light with measurements palette bold.
