I have had several documents where the typeface is "double-bolding" on the output device. If I remove the spot color and replace it with black it prints correctly. I am using the bold font and not stylized bold in the palette. I can send this file to another service bureau and they don't have any problems outputting this file. Any suggestions?

Check the trap setting of the pantone type.
It sounds like you might be getting a default trap size which will cause your output to be more bold.
