Im using quark on the PC platform. I recently installed adobe type manager for the font library. but now everytime i use a font from the library quark freezes. atm works fine with illustrator and photoshop, so i am only assuming its a problem with quark.

When launching QuarkXPress, several files must load with it. These files include:
* All QuarkXPress XTensions, XPress Preferences, and XPress Dictionary from the QuarkXPress folder.
* All active fonts
* All Printer Descriptions (PPDs)

Intially, u can try disabling all the fonts by moving them out of the fonts folder and keeping fonts u know that work properly. OR double click every font in the fonts folder, which ever causes a hang is the damaged one..

If problem still persistes..............
Receiving such errors is often indicative of damaged preference files. So, you might try isolating QuarkXPress by dragging the application icon from its folder to a new folder on the Desktop. Launch QuarkXPress from the isolated folder and test. This will create a new XPress Preference file and prevent XTensions from loading. If the problem is remedied in this environment, return the application to its original folder with the newly created preference file and test. Keep in mind that the XPress Preference file does contain specific application settings that will return to their default state if it rewritten or replaced with a newer version. If the problem is still resolved after returning the application and the new preferences to the original folder it was most likely related to the original XPress preferences file.

If the preference file is not the culprit, there may be a damaged or conflicting XTension. Then drag the XTension folder from the application folder to the Desktop. Launch QuarkXPress and test. If you cannot duplicate the issue, you can determine which XTension is causing your problem by dragging them in groups from the XTension folder on the Desktop to an XTension folder in the application folder. QuarkXPress 4.0 will automatically creates an empty XTension and XTension Disabled folder when the originals are no longer found. Remember, you must relaunch QuarkXPress to recognize the changes made to the XTension folder. If you do locate the conflicting or damaged XTension, start by reinstalling it from its source.

If the problem still occurs, you might want to disable ATM and see if the problem is solved.

* Which Operating System are you using?

In case you are using Windows 2000 then you can try disabling the ATM as Windows 2000 has an built-in Fonts manager and there could be a possible conflict.
