Last week QuarkXpress 4.11 on several of our office's Macs (running OS 9.1) won't open anything. As in, Quark starts up fine but then the only option available in the File menu is "Append." Everything else is (including Open) is greyed out. As you can imagine, this is an incredibly crippling issue and needs to be resolved, especially since it's not just one machine. =\ Anyone have any idea why this is happening, and what we can do to remedy it?

Thanks,

It might help if you can determine what has changed since everthing worked.

One thing you might try is to drag the quark prefrences file out of the quark folder. They may be corrupt.

I'll give that a shot. (But what's really strange is why this would happen simultaneously on several of our Macs.) As far as I know nothing's changed: we haven't updated any software or installed new ones, or anything. In the meantime I reinstalled another Quark in a different folder and haven't had any problems with it. Odd.

simply drag the Quark Application folder to the desktop and launch it. If it works fine then there is some issues with the XTensions/Fonts/PPDs

Just wondering if you found a resolution to your problem. We are experiencing the same thing with one Mac. The user has tried copying the folder to the desktop as suggested by 'techleo' but this didn't work. They tell me they have trashed the Quark 4.11 folder completely (including prefs) and copied the application from another mac and the problem is still present. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Spud,

I did! :) It turns out the amount of licensed users had already been reached on the serial number for our network, so then when I tried to start it up it wouldn't let me do anything. Why there was no error message telling me that is anyone's guess, as it would've certainly alleviated the mystery of this problem... But when another one of the users shut Quark down and I restarted it, I could get on fine. So the problem was that the serial was maxed.
