Here's a good one looking for somebody to solve the mystery:
Our church's network is using an NT4.0 server with Win98SE on the workstations. Until recently, everything was fine. I set up a login.bat file and use it to map all the drives in, etc., when a user logs on to the network. A few days ago, I noticed a few of the machines would not take my password. When I checked the PWL files, I found that the file names are being truncated to an 8.3 format. No big deal for some users, but we use the last name and first initial for logon, so some users are really messed up. The longer names work fine on the NT server and on a couple of XP workstations we have around the office. Any ideas on this one? I'm about to go crazy trying to figure it out! Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
