Putting my site on the web

I have just finished my webpage and i have been through dreamweaver mx's ftp process to load my page onto the web, but when the web address is entered in a browser the page does not load, instead it just produces a list of all the files.
I have tried defining the home page and renaming the first page to index and default etc but to no avail!
im so close (yet clearly so very far!) any help would be much appreciated, the nearly complete web address is

I noticed at the root all you have is a html folder. Inside that folder I did not see an index.htm but you said you tried that.

Wherever you are hosting that site has to have the web
server set up to recognize certain files as default (index.*, default.*, home.*...etc). Contact your web host and see what file names they have set their web servers up for.

Hey dvid,

your address gives me an intro Flash page and after clicking on Enter bttn left menu with an error 404 on the place of all other pages in frames.

Your problem could be in the names of your files:
###.html - "#" this symbol is reserved and, probably, can't be used in file names - this is my guess because the only page (left) that is found doesn't have ##.
Another thing. # symbol can be used as a FAKE LINK - highlight text & type # into the linkbox instead of smth.html - you'll see...

Also, avoid frames, large Flash animations and large graphic files.
I, personally, skip ALL Flash clips and consider them to be built-in Pop-Ups.

Ok i have amanges to get the home page up and have taken your points into consideration, i am trying to rename the files to remove the ## parts of the file names, but when i rename then the frames / pages disappear!!

Any ideas how i rename without loing the file!!?
