Hi,

Hope someone will help. I have Windows XP Pro. Yesterday my som installed Yahoo and AOL instant messengers and this morning I removed both of them (My Computer>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs) and now I cannot open any single link (url) from inside some email messages that contains links. I used to do it before I removed those 2 programs.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Alex

Those 2 messengers shouldnt be affecting it however with yahoo you might want to check in control panel. There newer messengers like to come bundled with extra stuff and there toolbar and will be installed unless you tell it not to. So make sure there both removed and if the links still dont work try this. Go to internet options click the advanced tab and then click restore defaults. Hit ok and close internet explorer and reopen it. Let me know if that works.

Download this program called hijackthis. Extract it to desktop or prefered folder. Open the program and choose do a system scan and save a logfile and post the logfile results on here. Im sensing spyware or pop up blocker.

Here is the copy of the logfile:

ok you list seems clean just one question did you have all those internet explorers going while you ran this or did you have them closed? By the way disable your pop up blockers and try clicking the links and see if they work.

Well, I had a couple of IE open. I closed all of them. Then opened one up and checked the pop-up blocker )Clicked on tools>selected Pop-Up blocker and it was turned off). Now I am puzzled and if you have some additional ideas, that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Alex

Try fooling around with the programs tab on internet explorer options. Also check security settings on options , click custom level and see if any of those have been modified. If none of this works im stumped lol. Nothing else for the heck of it close the aol toolbar and see if it works.

One more interesting thing. When I click on the link in email, it opens up IE, but its empty and can't even get to internet options, very strange. Plus, I don't have an AOL toolbar.

Thanks,
Alex

Well aol toolbar is showing up on hijack this. So if your sure you dont have it delete these on hijackthis. If your using aol internet dont delete these either.
